Maple Apple Ham Roast
The ham is already fully cooked, so this meal is really about warming it gently while the potatoes, apples, and onions roast around it. Maple syrup, mustard, apple cider vinegar, and a little Cajun seasoning bring everything together without covering up the flavor of the ham.
Farmstead Meal #007
Serves: 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: About 55 minutes
Ingredients
From The Farmstead
- 2 lb Jake’s Country Meats Boneless Ham Roast
- 3 Mick Klug Farm Apples
- 1 tsp LFK Cajun Seasoning
- 3 Tbsp Maple Row Maple Syrup
- 3 Tbsp Moo-ville Butter
From Your Pantry or Garden
- 2 lb Potatoes
- 1 Yellow Onion
- 2 Tbsp Mustard
- 1 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
- Salt & Pepper
Directions
1. Heat the Oven & Make the Glaze
Heat the oven to 375°F.
In a small bowl, mix together the maple syrup, mustard, apple cider vinegar, and black pepper. Set the glaze aside.
2. Give the Potatoes a Head Start
Melt the Moo-ville butter in a roasting pan. Cut the potatoes into bite-sized pieces and add them to the pan.
Season with salt, pepper, and a light sprinkle of LFK Cajun Seasoning. Toss to coat, then roast for 20 minutes.
3. Add the Ham
Remove the roasting pan from the oven and place the Boneless Ham Roast in the center of the pan.
Brush the top and sides of the ham with some of the maple-mustard glaze.
4. Add the Apples & Onion
Cut the apples and yellow onion into thick wedges. Add them around the ham and potatoes.
Toss them lightly in the melted butter and pan juices, then season with a little more LFK Cajun Seasoning.
5. Roast Everything Together
Return the pan to the oven and roast for another 30–45 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and the ham is heated through.
Brush the ham with more glaze during the last 10–15 minutes of cooking. The glaze should become glossy and begin to caramelize on the outside of the ham.
6. Rest & Serve
Remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
Serve slices of ham with the roasted potatoes, apples, and onions, along with some of the buttery pan juices spooned over the top.
Farmstead Tip
It’s all about balance. Not too sweet. Not too spicy. Just enough of each to make the smoky ham shine.
Know Your Cut: Boneless Ham Roast
Our Boneless Ham Roast is a whole-muscle cut made from our pasture-raised pork. It is cured with sea salt, turbinado sugar, and vegetable powder made from celery and beets.
Unlike a fresh pork roast, the ham is already fully cooked. You are simply heating it through, which makes it a great option for an easy family dinner without a long cooking time.
Why Apples & Ham?
Pork and apples are a classic fall pairing for a reason. The apples bring sweetness and acidity that work especially well with the salty, smoky ham. Roasting them in the same pan lets them soak up some of the butter and pan juices without losing their shape.
Mick Klug Farm apples are the seasonal piece of this meal. Use a firm apple that will hold up well in the oven rather than turning completely soft while the ham and potatoes finish cooking.
