Good Intentions…

The weather forecast is particularly important for a farmer, even more so when raising livestock outside in an uncontrollable climate. When the weather forecast showed heat indexes in the triple digits at the end of August, we all paid attention.

On abnormally hot days, animals need access to sprinklers, water holes, and of course fresh clean drinking water. Are all the animals positioned on the farm with adequate shade? When should we move animals? When should we feed them? What about loading and unloading? The less stress on the animals and people, the better.

With the best intentions, one of your farmers decided to get an earlier than usual start to his day. He woke up around 3am, got himself a tasty breakfast, and drove to the farm thinking of all the tasks he would accomplish before sunrise.

After enjoying his breakfast, those thoughts slowly faded to dreams. And those dreams only interrupted by the next farmer who arrived just after sunrise catching him in a deep sleep while the free-range ducks and peacocks moseyed their way out of the barn.

Oh, to be young enough to not need a cushioned bed to find rest, only a perfect sized ball-cap and an office chair missing a wheel! Say good-morning to your farmer, may all his dreams come true.

The First Six Pigs

Every journey has a beginning. For us it started in 1998 with six pigs, a welded pen in the back of our truck, and a whole lot of determination. What seemed like a crazy idea back then has grown into something bigger than we ever imagined. It is rooted in persistence, trust, and community.

Let's talk Turkey!

Raising turkeys was not something we always planned on, but once we learned how to raise chickens alongside our pigs and cattle, it made sense. Turkeys fit naturally into our pasture system, bringing their own unique benefits to the land while keeping us on our toes with plenty of challenges. What started as an experiment has become one of the most rewarding and humbling parts of our farm.

National Farmers Market Week

National Farmers Market Week is here, and we’re celebrating 25 years of connecting with you through the markets! Over the years, our weekends have been spent traveling early mornings, meeting new friends, and sharing our farm’s story. Those markets have shaped our farm, our practices, and our community in ways we never expected. Join us as we celebrate this special week and the relationships that make it all possible.
