Turkeys On The Farm

posted on

October 13, 2024

Some of our best family moments on the farm are spent caring for the turkeys. We chase and gather any birds that perched and wandered overnight, and chat with them to amuse ourselves with the flock’s response to whatever noise we come up with that day. These beautiful birds are spreading natural fertilizer on the soil, contributing to a vibrant farm ecosystem, and providing nourishment for all of us in the late Fall. The Future is Cooperative

October is National Co-op Month, a celebration cooperatives (organizations owned and operated by their members) that shape the future of food and farming. This year’s theme, “The Future is Cooperative,” highlights how co-ops are more than just stores or buying clubs—they are community-powered organizations that foster local connections, prioritize education, and promote sustainable food systems. By working together, food co-ops help bridge the gap between farmers and consumers, ensuring that local, ethical food remains at the heart of small communities.

Strengthening Local Food Systems

In light of recent disruptions, such as port closures, it's a timely reminder of the importance of local food systems. By supporting local farms, you’re making a conscious decision to invest in sustainable farming practices. Your choice helps keep our food supply stable and supports the story behind each meal. Whether or not supply chain issues affect grocery shelves again, we're dedicated to keeping you informed on how our farm continues to grow and serve our community.
