At Jake's, "Homestyle" means you measure spices with your heart and taste.

Directions

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound Jake's Italian Sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 jalapeno, chopped
  • 1 quart canned tomatoes (home-canned or store-bought)
  • 2 cups Jake's Chicken Broth
  • 2 teaspoons thyme
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cans beans (black beans, (Farmer Nate's favorite kidney beans, or chili beans), drained and rinsed
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped cilantro, diced avocado, sliced green onions

Instructions:

  1. Brown Jake's Italian Sausage in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion and jalapeno, cooking until softened and fragrant.
  2. Stir in canned tomatoes and Jake's Chicken Broth, bringing the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  3. Add thyme, garlic powder, chili powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper, adjusting to taste.
  4. Simmer for 20 minutes to meld the flavors.
  5. Stir in drained and rinsed beans, and simmer for an additional 15-20 minutes until desired consistency is reached. The longer the better.
  6. Serve hot, topped with your favorite garnishes.
