Cooking Time Guide

The larger the ham, the less time it needs per pound due to its overall cooking time to reach 140-145°F.

Type of Ham Weight Range Cooking Time (per pound)
Boneless Ham 2-4 lbs 18-22 minutes
Boneless Ham 4-6 lbs 15-18 minutes
Bone-In Ham 8-10 lbs 10-15 minutes

Instructions

Step 1: Thaw Your Ham

Completely thaw the ham in the refrigerator. Allow approximately 4-6 hours per pound. Proper thawing ensures even cooking and the best texture.

Step 2: Prepare for Cooking

Preheat your oven to 350°F. Remove the ham from the fridge about 2 hours before baking to bring it to room temperature.

Step 3: Cook the Ham

Place the ham on a rack in a roasting pan. Bake according to the guide above. If using a glaze, apply it during the final 30 minutes for a caramelized finish. For accuracy, use a thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 140-145°F.

Step 4: Rest and Serve

Remove the ham from the oven and tent it with foil. Let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing. This step locks in the juices for a tender, flavorful ham.

Optional Ham Glaze

The ratio of brown sugar to honey is 3:1. Multiply the amount based on your preferences!

  • 1½ cups light brown sugar
  • ½ cup honey

Combine the ingredients in a small saucepan over low-medium heat, stirring until melted and well combined. Pour over the ham during the final 30 minutes of cooking for a sweet, golden glaze.
